No one in my family has had diabetes because they’re all thin but I am 100 pounds overweight due to a knee surgery.

I seem to have some symptoms like frequent urinating, drinking lots of water and tingly feeling in feet.

of course. the first patient to get it develpoed it on his own and so might you. it is hereditary but also can develop in pateints who are over weight, get very little exercise, and do not eat a healthy diet. just because your knoee is bum doesn’t rule out exercise. a swimming pool takes all the weight off your joints as does a reclining stationary bike. there are lots of exercises you can do that don’t use your legs too.

Yes, family history doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t get type 2 diabetes. Often it is about weight and diet too. Check out the below website to see for yourself how to reduce the risk of obtaining it.

Yes. type 2 diabetes is NOT a disease that can be caught, it is a medical condition that simply occurs. Consult your Dr. STAT!

This is a strange disorder. I have no family history and I am thin and petite but I love sweets. I’m trying to break this habit. You can reverse it by losing weight, (move around about 10 minutes 3X a day at least) eating healthy (a limited amount of pasta and white potatoes), unprocessed fruits and vegetables if you can afford it… Tingling in the feet could be nerve damage. You don’t want to have it amputated so see a doctor and a dietician. Also an endocrinologist if there is one in your area. See an eye doctor. Also go on the web and log on to dLife.com and dLife Forum and the American Diabetes Association.

You don’t have to have a family history of diabetes to get it yourself.
If you are having symptoms then it’s probably a good idea to go see your doctor and have some tests done.

Type 2 does not need a family history to bring it on. I would go to a doctor about the symptoms you mentioned. The tingly feeling in the feet is one that needs particular attention. It could be just tarsal tunnel syndrome or it could be something else.
