Genetics is not the most important reasons that why we develop the diseases, but diet is. The difference between type 1 and type 2 is if the pancreas can produce insulin or not. Therefore, if the type 2 diabetic patient continues to load up with carbohydrates, which raise the blood glucose level, he would wipe out the beta cells of his pancreas and becomes type 1, which is insulin-dependent.

I’m 21 years old. My grandparents are diabeting and I just wanted to know if I am at risk aswell. Thing is I eat ALOT of chocolate, but I have only been doing this for about a year, does this mean that even if I start eating healthy tomorow its too late for me and eventually ill become diabetic? While I do not deny genetics plays a role in developing Type 1 diabetes mellitus, I strongly believe and suggest both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus are caused by diets. We can prevent them from happening and can manage them by diets for either cure or at least less dependence on medications and insulin. Read Carbohydrates Can Kill for the answer. Good luck.
